Floyd technically relinquishes the number 1 spot on sep 13th or whatever - If Sergey Kovalev gets the Adonis fight, he should be #1 with a win. As long as his competition stays solid, I don't see who Pac can beat at welter to dethrone Sergey and get that spot. Kov has been on a very impressive run and it's time he gets his due. Ward....is not the issue. Besides Kov, there's Gonzalez with a potential victory over Inoue. Fact is, it'll be tough coming off shoulder surgery, possibly 8, 9 or more months off and at the age of 37. And if Golovkin gets that Canelo or Cotto fight...it doesn't matter if Floyd retires or not, at some point fans and media should reward this mythical spot to fighters that are consistently active and fighting and beating the best available in impressive fashion...those guys are the ones who have really captured our attention these past few years - Kov, Golovkin, Gonzalez.

then again none of those fights could happen so we revert to when does manny come back, what form does he come back in and what's the landscape like then?

No, unless he beats mayweather in a rematch wich isnt going to happen. He had his chance and came up short. There are alot more talented fighters that deserve to be ranked higher. But manny is still top 10 or top 15

I just watched him beat Floyd Mayweather with one arm.

He IS lb for lb the greatest fighter right now.. Probably of all time.

No. Rematch Floyd, if not retire. What else does Manny have to prove?

I voted no. He is 36 and showed signs of decline against Mayweather. I thought he could have beat Mayweather if he had attacked harder and more often and thrown more punches. Maybe he is no longer able to do this. Anyway with younger great fighters like GGG and Gonzalez around older greats like Mayweather and Pacquiao can no longer be number 1 pound for pound in my opinion. Pacquiao is still in the top 5 or 6 best pfp but his number 1 days are over and so are Mayweather's days of being number 1 in my opinion. Great younger champions GGG and Gonzalez have taken over as the best pfp fighters in the world. If 147 pound Mayweather and 160 pound GGG were to fight in the middle at 154 pounds I believe GGG would be a big betting favorite.

that fighting bums and people jumping 1 or 2 divisions to fight him does not make him an elite fighter

Kovalev is another great young champion and another reason 38 year old Mayweather and 36 year old Pacquiao are no longer number 1 pfp in my opinion. I know Mayweather beat Pacquiao but he still didn't look like the best PFP fighter in the world to me.

                      No chance.

                      Rigondeaux
                      Ward
                      Gonzalez
