BOSTON - James DeGale (21-1, 14 KOs) narrowly defeated Andre Dirrell (24-2, 16 KOs) Saturday afternoon on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC from Agganis Arena in Boston to earn the super middleweight world title.

Degale had Dirrell in trouble early knocking him down twice in the second round to open up a lead on the scorecards. Dirrell fought back strongly throughout the rest of the fight by using his jab and a series of combinations to occasionally stun DeGale, but was unable to make up the gap on the scorecards. The judges' scores were 114-112 twice and 117-109.

As much as I don't care for Degales ways he won..maybe 112 to 114 .I can't even start to imagine how much of a robbery it would have been called if the fight would have been in England !!

Is every fighter now going to throw out the "all he did was run" excuse everytime they lose? I guess cutting off the ring, attacking the body to slow down their mobility, and pumping out a stiff jab are not allowed in boxing anymore and you just have to let the other guy "run".....

I was heavily rooting for Dirrel but he lost this fight although he made it close. The knockdowns made the difference. He's a fighter that depends too much on reflexes and it cost him two knockdowns which it made it hard to overcome in a close fight. He also didn't let his hands go as much even when DeGale was doing nothing and there to be outworked. Good performance by both men but Dirrel is being a sore loser.

kinda hard to crawl out of a 10-7 hole.. i had dirrell almost pulling it off but DeGale took the last two rounds.. andre was spending too much time yapping, you don't do that when you're in the hole.
