Is PBC boxing's new feeder system?

You are right on the ball here, my biggest concern with PBC and their success would be the complete disregard for the global world of boxing. We're getting lots of great fighters from all over the world, and big events being held all over the world.
Haymon would have absolutely no reason to push the new stars like Frampton, Povetkin, Fury, GGG, etc.
This is the part I don't understand when people beg for the UFC model.
You know what the UFC model gets you? One guy controlling everything to his biases and ambitions.
The beauty in how boxing works now is that if you are good enough, you cannot be denied your chance in the rankings. So for example a guy who comes from Uzbekistan can still be pushed by local Euro promoters/managers until he is ranked and getting big fights. Whereas Haymon would have no reason whatsoever to get these guys out there.Comment

Put it this way, I'd rather watch Maidana v Thurman than Mayweather v Pacquiao again.Don't agree, we all love entertaining fights, but people want to see the best in the world, whether it's exciting or not, this is what sports are about.
It's like saying you won't watch Messi and Ronaldo play because the guys on the street are more entertaining to watch, doesn't quite work.
It's like saying you would rather watch the CFL over the NFL because the field is bigger, they throw more, and they score more. But it
In fact, I was more looking forward to Matthysse-Provodnikov than Mayweather-Pacquiao before either happened.
I want to be entertained by boxing. I think casual boxing fans want the same thing. If you're entertained on a weekly basis, you keep tuning in on a weekly basis.
Anyhow, PBC may not have the best fighters but they're not bums, they're like just below the best, and arguably the best in some divisions.Last edited by Weebler I; 05-22-2015, 04:29 PM.Comment

I wouldn't watch Maidana-Thurman over Mayweather-Pacquiao, but that's just opinion and totally subjective.Put it this way, I'd rather watch Maidana v Thurman than Mayweather v Pacquiao again.

One of boxing's problems is pleasing "the casuals", boxing will either flourish or not for what it is; a sport that is at times the best in the world, and sometimes boring as hell.
Casuals want to see the best in the world, in whatever they are watching. If it was so easy, it wouldn't be hard to promote club shows with **** fighters who just **** it out.Comment

I'm not saying PBC isn't the best already so it will fail, I'm asking how it will establish it's guys as the best in the world to people.
Because I have a feeling that will be a major issue moving forward. It'll end up with the PBC on a similar standing to Bellator, and the sanctioning bodies on a similar standing to the UFC.
Sure Bellator has a LWT champ, but obviously wouldn't be considered the best in the world.Comment

If you're the best and you're boring, no one cares to watch you, ask Andre Ward and Guillermo Rigondeaux.I wouldn't watch Maidana-Thurman over Mayweather-Pacquiao, but that's just opinion and totally subjective.

If you're second best but you're entertaining, millions will tune in, ask Carl Froch and Adrien Broner.
Right, but PBC isn't club fighters, they have a lot of top 5 guys.If it was so easy, it wouldn't be hard to promote club shows with **** fighters who just **** it out.
Anyhow, my point is the main problem so far imo has been the match-ups, not the ranking of the fighters.Comment

Agreed! I am with you but also view the structure as a whole for the long term to be an issue if they cannot establish any of their fighters as the best.If you're the best and you're boring, no one cares to watch you, ask Andre Ward and Guillermo Rigondeaux.

Entertaining fights? It's kind of your luck what you get after the match is set.
But the model you implement, and your long term plan is what will either breed a successful monopoly of the sport, or will flush 100s of millions down the toilet.Comment
