Comments Thread For: Warren Outlines Situation on Saunders-Eubank II Delay

George Warren has outlined the reason why a rematch between Billy Joe Saunders and Chris Eubank Junior isn’t possible at this point in time. Negotiations were ongoing until Team Saunders were informed that a fight involving Eubank’s WBA interim belt could impact on his mandatory status with the WBO.

“They’re not fighting because we couldn’t reach agreement with Chris Eubank Promotions,” said Warren when speaking to BoxNation’s Steve Bunce. “We had a timescale to the deal done in and had a complication that came late on in the negotiations over Chris Eubank Junior’s WBA interim world title.”

Why are the Eubanks so desperate to keep that worthless belt?

He took a lot of step aside money i.e money for doing *** all and remained the mandatory challenger.

What idiot would turn that down? Maybe Khan?

I'm aware. However, he was offered a shot by IBF against Hassan N'dam after taking stepping aside, declined. While they do mention losing the mandatory spot I get the feeling they'll pursue Eubank Jr 2 regardless because it also has a "title".

Hassan N'dam or Andy Lee in a much bigger domestic fight?

Again, most people would pick the money spinning domestic fight for a world title over facing a complete unknown for no money. Most people.

Andy Lee represents ROI, but yeah I realize that. However, if BJS beats N'dam it is a unification fight, bigger. I'm not too hung up on the IBF incident as much I am on this second fight being made, which of course they had the intentions of getting on until they got the news of losing their spot. Even then I wouldn't be surprised it it gets made.

Winning a belt to make a fight bigger you say? Never thought of that.
