Comments Thread For: R. Mayweather Not Convinced Floyd Will Retire After 9/12

Roger Mayweather, uncle and co-trainer of WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs), is not convinced that his nephew will follow through with his plan to retire by the end of the year.

After his twelve round decision victory over Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd, Mayweather announced at the post-fight press conference that he planned to retire after his next fight, which is targeted for September 12th.

The pay-per-view fight with Pacquiao has shattered every possible financial record in boxing. Mayweather, 38-years-old, will earn over $200 million from the event.

Floyd can still beat most people doing what he does, so why retire? Its his job, it what he does, its what hes good at, its all he knows. He wont find another job that makes him this much money!

You sometime think the zero is what overrides everything though. But there is still a lot of money to be made for Floyd and people to beat. He'll only be able to do this once, when your ability is gone theres no coming back. So im sure once his contract ends. The pressure will be off to fight every 6 months. But he can still fight as and when he pleases for a challenge, surverying the scenery and taking a challenge like BH does at his age.
        Do it while you can.

I don't know how it played out for Robinson, but if you want to know why a fighter should retire on top, watch ESPN's 30 for 30: "Muhammad and Larry." It's not a good look for Ali:

Stream the film Muhammad and Larry on Watch ESPN. A look at the October 1980 Muhammad Ali–Larry Holmes fight and its impact on both fighters.

              Obviously he won't.

49-0 and then he'll be a free agent to the highest bidder for number 50.

If he can continue making $20 mil+ a fight he'll keep fighting. He'll keep fighting until he loses, he might have a year or even 2 off but the money will draw him back eventually.
