Comments Thread For: Wilder-Molina: Redkach-Zlaticanin WBC Eliminator

BoxingScene.com has been advised that Ivan Redkach (18-0, 14KOs) will battle Dejan Zlaticanin (20-0, 13KOs) in a WBC lightweight eliminator on June 13th at the Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Showtime televised event will be headlined by Deontay Wilder's first defense of the WBC heavyweight championship against Eric Molina.

No determination as of yet on television details for Redkach-Zlaticanin - if the fight will be part of the main Showtime broadcast or if it lands on Showtime Extreme. Zlaticanin may be familiar to some fans with his upset victories over Ricky Burns and Petr Petrov.

I won't bother to watch this fight because Wilder/Molina should not be taking place.

World champions should only fight other world champions or number one contenders for their belt. In other words, they should do what Floyd Mayweather has done since he became a world champion at welterweight. Mayweather has fought nothing but other world champions or number 1 contenders for a belt. No world champion should be taking soft defenses like Molina, Rod Salka or Willie Munroe Jr.

I like Dejan Zlaticanin, wish him the best he's a nice guy. His son was born the same week he beat Ricky Burns. A bit limited and over relient on the left hand but it's worked so far.

Wilder is coming of a hand injury, and will have a mandatory after this (Winner of Povetkin / Perez). He would have 2/3 tough fights this year. Yeah this guy probably doesn't deserve a shot but he will be fighting in his home town, and is coming off an injury like I said before. So I give him a pass, and I will watch. I hope they don't put it on Showtime though they should do like HBO does with GGG and put him in with an over matched guy that he will look good against, to bring in casual fans (Would be great on CBS or NBC).

He may as well be fighting John Molina for all it matters.
