JAMES DEGALE is out to win the hearts of the British public this week in Boston.
He is preparing to take on Andre Dirrell for the vacant IBF super-middleweight title and one look on social media will give you a clear indication of how DeGale splits opinion.
“****y”, “arrogant”, “w***er”.
They are just some of the words that have been used to describe DeGale when I mentioned his fight on Saturday night to three different people from outside of boxing.
How wrong they are.
DeGale, 29, became an Olympic gold medallist in Beijing back in 2008 as he claimed middleweight glory in the amateur ranks.
A national hero and the only member of the GB Boxing team to come away from China with gold.
But just over six months later on his professional debut, the Londoner was booed out of the ring.
DeGale did struggle with his journeyman opponent Vepkhia Tchilaia but it was still a harsh move by the crowd in Birmingham that February night.
