And it is still on the WBC website.

Mauricio Sulaiman, World Boxing Council President, confirms that Miguel Cotto must face Gennady Golovkin in an obligatory defence.
Kazakh “GGG” defeated Britain's Martin Murray, last weekend, successfully defending his WBC interim middleweight championship. Cotto is the absolute Champion of the division, while Genaddy is the official challenger.

However, the Champion has a voluntary defence. If he wins he must fight Golovkin.

“ Miguel Cotto will have a voluntary defense. He will choose his rival. But the winner will have to face Golovkin” Mauricio stressed.

Possible opponents for Cotto are Timothy Bradley and Erislandy Lara. The fight Is scheduled for June at a venue to be determined.

I cannot wait to read or hear Loeffler's response to this because after Saturday's fight, Sulaiman confirmed that GGG must consent to step aside and that there must be a signed agreement that GGG gets to fight the winner. Now? Who knows what the hell is going on?

And they wonder why people do not invest themselves in following boxing. Shit like this is almost enough to make me support Haymon.

You know...For a guy who thinks Cotto is utter shyt, you SURE DO want to see GGG vs Cotto. Now, either you think it will be a compelling fight, or you are a miserable angry bastard with low standards for your favorite fighter. So which is it? Are you secretly an admirer of Cotto's skill set, or do you just want to see an utter blowout in the ring because you are a true "fan" of the sport?

Barcham, your posts get more and more unhinged with every passing day. Seems to me, that you like shiny belts more than you like a good scrap in the ring? I mean you talk so much about "unifying" the belts but I have to say, of what REAL value is earning a belt, if the opposition, as per your words, is garbage?

I find it odd that you fail to grasp just how pointless unifying the belts is, if you truly believe Cotto has no business in the ring with such a superior fighter like GGG.

"Cotto ****in disgusts me and GGG destroys him with ease, but I somehow will value the win as testament to GGGs middleweight reign."

Do welterweights confirm/validate the greatness of Middleweights? Does Cotto hold the key? Interesting...

A big fan of the middleweight division but someone has to stick his neck out and fight GGG doe!

Cotto is the aging champ who doesn't want to get his shyt kicked in for his first defense of his middleweight title. Ok, then lets get the show on the road for Canelo vs Cotto. This fight would be a fairly entertaining fight.. You got the young kid with heart who has some stamina issues and can get hit with a fairly untested chin, fighting an aging champ with his shiny new trainer and a new outlook on his career and can punch. It's like a scene from Rocky 15 or something.

No matter who wins they will ultimately lose to GGG! He is just better than either one of these guys. The build up to an utter massacre is just...well, boring. If they just vacate the title(s) and retire or move down in weight before fighting Gennady, it will suck that we would have to sit and wait for all this drama to unfold.

Of the two Canelo has shown that he will take on the biggest challenges. His promoter didn't want him to fight Trought, he pushed for the fight. He didn't have to fight Lara, there really was no upside but he took the challange. If Cotto doesn't stall and kill their fight Canelo will beat Miguel's ass and take his middleweight strap and then a GGG fight can happen.
Cotto on the other hand won't take a fight unless his diva demands are met. He would find a way to kill a GGG fight for sure.

Stop smoking that sh.t. Canelos resume aint **** compared to Cottos so stop with the Canelo taking the biggest challenges. Cotto just started with this choosing sh.t. He too was fighting top comp when Canelo was A NOBODY. GGG showed us he can be outboxed, and let me tell you, just because Cotto is on the down side doesn't mean he doesn't know how to box. His jab is underrated and his left hook to the body is painful. Will he beat GGG, maybe/maybe not, will he go all out no guts no glory... Absolutely. GGG is another character that just showed up, while Cotto on the other hand has been doing this for a minute. Stop ***.ng hatting.

By the way Cotto WILL whoop Canelos ass, will he whoop GGG not so sure but not impossible.

I got a feeling that if Cotto wins, Canelo and GGG are going to have to wait. I think Floyd will real in Cotto for the MW tittle. Mark it.
