Comments Thread For: Andre Dirrell Feels New and Improved For DeGale

ANDRE DIRRELL has warned James DeGale he is a changed man.

DeGale is looking to make history against Dirrell on Saturday night by becoming the first British Olympic gold medallist to win a professional world title.

The pair will fight for the vacant IBF super-middleweight belt in Boston.

But American Dirrell says he is a much better fighter than the brash man who lost in a controversial split decision to Carl Froch in 2009.

"I'm not saying I didn't appreciate it but I didn't look at boxing the same as I do now," Dirrell told Starsport. "I got a whole other respect for boxing.

"I was quite an actor, man, when it came to being flamboyant at press conferences and such, just like when I fought Froch.

Problem with Dirrell is that 100 yr old senile gran pappy

That clueless old man hurts both Dirrells. Neither Dirrellis getting the direction or training needed to succeed. Drop that old goat and get a new trainer.

Whenever a boxer says they are "new and improved," that's a big red flag.

Roy Jones Jr. used that phrase often in the last 10 years.

You know if he kept at it he could of been good,i dont think he has the mentality to be a world champ, the punch he got hit whit on the ground was bad in fairness and arthur should of been DQd either way,but crying for no reason afterwards??? Not world champ matereal now is it? De gael wins anyway i think

Abe gave Dirrell a 4 yr headache

If Dirrell had a compentent trainer and could drop that worthless old Gran pappy then Dirrell would be a champ today. That senile old man hurts both dirrells.

            Very talented fighter.

Don't think he has the mental toughness to be a world champion though. When it gets difficult in there, I'm not sure he'll be able to grit it out.

I could never figure what the hell happened to Andre, but maybe you nailed it with the mental toughness thing. After I saw him outclass Froch on his home turf (and get robbed), I knew he was something special, and figured he would go on to greatness despite the 'loss'. He looked as good a prospect as Ward. After that, it seems like he dropped off the face of the earth after the super 6. I remember there were articles at the time suggesting he had concussion/medical problems as a result of the punch, but a lot of people were saying that it was BS, and that he was just trying to avoid fighting Ward (because they were friends).

Whatever the case, it's a waste of talent (much like Ward). Seems to be like these guys either need better advisors/managers. Ward could be making that Mayweather money right now if he had promoted himself right and fought everyone.

Did Dirrell actually recovered from his old "brain injury"?

Dirrell was Cobra'd just like the rest of them.

He's never looked the same since Froch beat him.

Well actually he looked sensational against Arthur Abraham in his very next fight.

That was Dirrell at his very best until he started to bottle it towards the end.....
