Comments Thread For: Kiko Martinez: Frampton Far Superior To Leo Santa Cruz

Some fighters may be understandably apprehensive at the thought of travelling abroad to fight for a world title in the hometown of their opponent, but that thought process can't be attributed to Kiko Martínez who is more than accustomed to just that. Martínez once again takes to the road when he faces Scott Quigg on July 18 for the WBA regular super bantamweight crown and the Alicante native spoke to BoxingScene.com just after returning to Spain from the press conference to announce the fight.

"I'm really thankful for this opportunity to once again fight for the world title against a great boxer in a great place like the Manchester Arena," said Kiko.

"I'm really motivated for this, it's been a while since I've felt this motivated, it's brought back my will to be a world champion again.

Interesting to read that he was going to face Solis until this chance came along. Kiko would've had a good shot at cleaning up a couple of belts at BW.

He's right about LSC. The guy is on one of the saddest runs in recent memory, one easy pick after another.

there is no doubt but once santa cruz starts facing live fighters hes going to be liked because of his "fan friendly style". the only thing i could see people not liking him for at that point is hes with haymon

ya for sure he is for sure being babied when it seems he dont need to be. i get it to a certain extent they did the same thing with canelo but canelo was also like 20 at the time santa cruz is 26. all santa cruz has to do is take one live fight and people will get off his back but until then hes going to be questioned and rightfully so

Totally agree with statement. I only add, IMO his power is a concern.

Yeah he seemed to be building a following and great momentum back in 2012, would only take one good opponent/fight and he'd get back there. They've been talking about putting him against Mares for so long and I'm not sure what the hold up as is there as neither have much else going on.

the blue print is there to beat kiko, you need to move around quickly and jab him as he comes in and walks onto it or feint the jab throw the straight, quick combo step back out again, I think the overhand rights a good counter to get kiko with, even let him jab and step in and throw it, but idealy you want to keep him long to snuff out a decision. The problem with quigg is he takes too long to set his feet, he's twisted and robotic, and if he gets into a shoot out with kiko his punches are going to take longer to reach the target cause he's all twisted and not in a natural posture. GOOD LUCK MIGHT WANA SACK THE TRAINER AFTER AND LEARN SOME SKILLS.
