It actually annoys me that he says that and people believe it, more so the believing part.

He's ******** with cash on hand (likely never in a position where he has to run a tab with some nookie), is in a city where his ******** likely leads to tons of fringe benefits, and his ******** is often enough and seemingly consistent enough that it likely qualifies as a ******** enterprise (keeping all receipts for one's records), allowing him to write-off whatever losses he does accumulate as direct offsets to whatever tax owed on his winnings (also allows for an expense write-off of the losses, lowering his federal tax burden even further).

Floyd Mayweather Jr, over the course of just the Showtime/CBS deal, will likely have made $400m in fight proceeds. Taxes/manager/trainer/camp expenses/etc and he'll likely have deposited $200m into his bank account.

Gamblers need a 12-step program when their actions are destructive; betting the mortgage payment on an 8:1 longshot is a clear example of there being a problem.

Floyd bet significantly less than $100k on the favorite in his prop bet; would take a breath before offering advice.

Not true. ******** addiction is an impulse disorder regardless if you have the money to lose or not.....it doesn't have anything to do with what is in the pocket, it is what's in the mind that matters.
