Gennady Golovkin stopped Willie Monroe Jr in the sixth round in Inglewood, California, on Saturday night.

The 33-year-old Kazakh took a few damaging punches along the way but won inside the distance for the 20th consecutive time.

He knocked Monroe down twice in the second round and finished the bout with a series of uppercuts that took the once beaten boxer's fighting spirit out of him. The fight ended 45 seconds into the sixth round.

Golovkin, nicknamed GGG, is now undefeated after 33 fights, and has been taken the distance only three times.

To me this victory was impressive. I had never heard of Monroe prior to this fight but 60 seconds into the fight I could see he had some ability. He showed some heart and guts but was systematically broken down. You have to give the man GGG his props for that.

I'm glad he was smart enough to recognize he couldn't continue. A lot of people going into this fight recognized that he has ability, but this was too early and too big a step. Best of luck to him going forward.

Once I saw he kept pawing with the jab, bringing it back low, that's when I knew Monroe came to waste everybody's time, at least those that were looking for anything competitive
