Way off comparing him to Russell. GGG is a champion, has been a champion and has fought numerous top ten guys in his division. Can't say the same for Russell fighting 20 TBA's.For a 33 year old, 10 year pro with 13 defenses over 5 years as champion, that is truly sad.
Anyway, as with all his opponents, Monroe is a second rate nobody and doesn't stand a chance.
It's funny how much **** Gary Rusell got, as a young early 20s prospect, for fighting chumps, yet a 33 year old long time veteran champion of the sport with supposed P4P ranking claims, fights similar chumps again and again and gets praise.
It's just another crap fight. Who cares? I'm only keen on the Gonzalez/Sosa fight.
Golovkin just hasn't got the big names yet, at no fault of his own. His HBO debut was supposed to be against Dmitry Pirog, who suffered a back injury and had to pull out. Martinez didn't want to fight, we all know that. Cotto hasn't either. Quillin didn't before the Haymon HBO beef, N'dam didn't show up to two different purse bids. Chavez jr pulled out last year.
Before he signed with K2 he had terrible management. He was with the same people who promoted Felix Sturm, who Golovkin was mandatory for two years when GGG was fighting out of Germany. Basically three years of his career was chasing Sturm and he was being d1cked around, then he was in legal issues with them to get out of his contract which is why he had to fight in places like Panama just to stay active. Similar to Hopkins numerous legal and contract disputes.
Again, Golovkins career is far more like Hopkins at middleweight before he got his big shot against Trinidad. Hopkins had one title, had to fight top ten guys and mandatories for years. Don King wouldn't let him fight the other two title holders (Joppy and Holmes) and Hopkins couldn't land any big names. Eventually his patience paid off big time at age 36. Golovkin will get his big shots soon too.Last edited by ИATAS; 05-15-2015, 10:57 PM.Comment

Who called him a bum?
I think Monroe could use more seasoning before a fight like this. But I think he is a pretty talented fighter
What it boils down to me, and while it's not an exact comparison for comparisons sake here, but I see this as a Trinidad-Reid type of scenario thing going down. Not a good thing.
Fed to the wolves too early at this point in his career.
But if Monroe pulls off the upset tomorrow, you won't hear a peep from me about GGG being overrated.
He'd have beat who I think is while not the super uber mega emeritus diamond uranium lineal champ at 160, he'd have beat the best at the weight class.Last edited by Sweet Pea 50; 05-15-2015, 11:20 PM.Comment

Monroe has the movement, the reflexes and the speed to give GGG some problems but I just watched his last fight against Bryan Vera and I was surprised that he looked tired and was gasping for air after 3 rounds, GGG is no Vera, GGG will break him down and make him move much more than he wants to and if he has stamina problems it's over by the 6th, Monroe also doesn't have the power to stop a guy like GGG in his tracks, so GGG will keep coming at him if he moves all the time.
Monroe should stand and deliver carefully in the first round to give GGG the impression that he's gonna try to fight him toe toe, then when GGG gets into this toe to toe mode and starts opening up Monroe should move and counter, if he fights like this and makes it past the 8th he can get a very close decision especially if he doesn't get dropped.
I wouldn't have my money on Monroe though, he's a B level boxer and GGG is a A- level pressure puncher, so it's really an uphill battle for MonroeComment

Monroe is pretty good, I think he has some talent. However Golovkin is considered the best 160 pound fighter in the world really without much doubt.Who called him a bum?

Maybe pretty good is enough to give him a challenge or maybe pretty good turns out to be really good.
Generally speaking though pretty good isn't messing with the best, but hey Monroe has his chance to prove himself on a big stage to be something more than what people believe. Not like that hasn't happened in boxing before, but I ain't holding my breath for that.Comment
