His middleweight title is important to him because it's leverage when potentially negotiating with Canelo or Floyd. That's why he doesn't simply drop it and go back down to 154 - he owns what many people want, and because of that Cotto has an upper hand when it comes to the negotiating table.

The whole Cotto vs Canelo/Floyd will be quite interesting because GGG is mandatory. Will he accept step aside money? Will he enforce his mandatory position and if so, will the WBC stick to their word and force/strip Cotto if he refuses? Will Cotto lose his leverage without the WBC belt or will his Ring (lineal) title be just the same?
That disgusts me. Leveraging belts and titles to make money.

Cotto is above all governing bodies. Cotto has an entire country(arguably) and modern day Rome behind him.

If Cotto beats Geale, the excuses are over. Time to fight GGG.

You can't pretend to be too small for MW after successfully defending your "lineal" title against a genuine MW.

Because his career isn't too hot right now and he agreed to Cotto's terms. Nobody else would.

He will vacate and drop back down to 154 for a clash with Canelo. I'm fine with either opponent though.

Why did Clottey get a title shot at Pac when he was coming off a loss? Why did Cintron get a title shot at Canelo when he lost 2 of his last 3 fights? among many other similar situations.

                    - easy to beat
                    - cheap
                    - no negotitiation leverage
                    - light puncher
                    - genuine MW (for Cotto's credibility.)
                    - will fight in the middle of a Puerto Rican **** pit. (MSN in June.)

Did I miss anything? And he is willing to drain down to 157 for the exposure and $. Most MWs probably told Cotto to f@ck off.

Dafuq? Aint no middle weight turning down a fight with Cotto, even if it's cutting an extra 3 pounds.
