Tom Loeffler: Golovkin has nearly sold out Forum

"Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin's bout against Willie Monroe Jr. on Saturday has nearly sold out the Forum.

Tom Loeffler, Golovkin's promoter, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the historic Inglewood arena's 12,600-seat configuration for boxing is approaching full capacity.

A sellout would be another remarkable achievement for the unbeaten Golovkin, a former Kazakh Olympian who was unknown in North America less than three years ago. He will go for his 20th consecutive stoppage victory when he meets Monroe, who has won nine straight fights."

Golovkin is being marketed right by K2 Promotions and HBO. Good for him, I think Canelo vs. Golovkin would be a big PPV fight for Cinco De Mayo in 2016 and the right one for boxing especially if they're wrecking everyone.

      "marketed right" my ass...
If he wouldn't be with those novices but he would be either GBP or Haymon or even wit Top Rank he wouldn't get problems from good opponents don't want to fight him. K2 isn't a big name, they also don't offer big money that's why better competition avoid him. Too much risk for too low reward if Golovkin would be with a bigger promotional company or with Haymon he would get those opponents for sure.

There may be some truth to that but name one haymon fighter that can get over 12 thousand people to buy a ticket (besides floyd). Broner sold only 6k in freaking Cincinnati and most other top haymon fighter can barely get a couple thousand to their shows. Haymon is running a tv show, not an event...there's positives and negatives to both methods.

Top Rank could probably make him a house hold name in no time. Bob Is good at feeding us **** and we eating it like it was candy...

Not that Golovkin needs marketing schemes, his skills/Mexican style alone would make him famous.

That's right but I doubt that because they're with Haymon. Also the cause I think that HBO has more subscribers than Showtime and PBC just started. I think if PBC will continue to get more popular, their outstanding fighters will sell really well.

Ah, you talked about sold tickets? It's mainly because HBO hype > Showtime hype and HBO is pretty much cornered, even is they make such good numbers, they have less and less fighters with almost everyone wants to work with Haymon so they have to select the best sell fighters, they have to make them as big draws or they will fall. So I think it's more likely because of HBO than because of K2.
