  • Comments Thread For: Monroe is Not Ruling Out a Knockout of Golovkin

WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29 KOs) has been warned by his upcoming challenger, Boxcino champion Willie Monroe Jr. (19-1, 6 KOs). The two of them will battle this Saturday night in an HBO Championship Boxing main event from the Forum in Inglewood, California.

Monroe is a heavy underdog and Golovkin has been demolishing opponents left and right.

No opponent has been able to last the distance with Golovkin since June of 2008 (and that was an eight round contest). Golovkin's last opponent Martin Murray last eleven rounds, but took a beating in the process and was stopped before further damage was inflicted.

i watched Monroe's fight with Vera the other night. hadn't seen him fight before but it was an impressive performance. shame he's getting GGG'd on Saturday because i definitely saw potential for him to climb the middleweight ranks. can't just go straight to the top though

The guy only has 6 knock outs and he thinks he can knock out GGG? Wasn't he chosen to fight GGG because of this very record?

monroe can box, so I see him realizing the trouble he got himself into in the early rounds, then trying to box himself out of a deficit until his destructive demise around rd10. Monroe cant hurt GGG so his only chance is to box and use his feet to keep him out of range. His lack of punching power should be a key factor to how he approaches golovkin. Avoid engagements and waiting until the later rounds, to force the fight, will be his best bet. DUnno if he is skilled enough to execute a legit gameplan, so im sticking with a tko in 10..
