Comments Thread For: Lemieux-N'Dam Tops Big Card at Bell Centre, June 20

Eye of the Tiger Management and Golden Boy Promotions in collaboration with evenko, are proud to present the IBF world middleweight championship between Quebec slugger David Lemieux (33-2, 31 KOs) and Hassan N'Dam (31-1,18 KOs). For the occasion, the promoters have concocted a boxing card heavy in Quebec flavour : no less than 4 belts will be won Saturday, June 20th at the Bell Centre.

During his impressive win against Gabriel Rosado in New York, David Lemieux convinced Golden Boy Promotions that he has the makings of a world champion. When the IBF title in his division became vacant, the promoter did not hesitate to organize a confrontation between the young slugger (ranked 4th in the world) and N'Dam, the No.1 contender. Moreover, the co-promoter of the event and President of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya said he was very excited about the card on June 20:

Ward should push his fight back a week. There will be absolutely no interest in his fight, especially in media coverage. Even ESPN will probably have rafael cover the porter-broner fight and send Campbell to the Lemieux-Ndam fight.

There will be US tv for this fight, most certainly..probably foxsports1

I wanted to go to the Ward fight but might just stay home now for the PBC card but please Ward's fight will draw much more interest than Lemieux-Ndam

How??? I mean, I'm sure it will get a good push from BET but there is absolutely nothing interesting about it, compared to the other 2 fights.

Why? Now he has an excuse for nobody watching. He's fighting Paul Smith at 172lbs, it's the least meaningful fight of the night.

                Speak for yourself.

Of the three main events announced so far, Ward-Smith (return fight for the super middleweight kingpin) gets just edged up Broner-Porter, mainly because of their fight being on NBC in primetime.

You add that Lemeiux-N'Dam is unlikely to be touched by HBO, and you're comparing the Ward fight to a vacant title fight that will likely be on FS1.

How many fans stateside are honestly going to choose watching Lemieux-N'Dam on FS1, a fight between two fighters with maybe tangential ties to the US, over a good fight on primetime terrestrial TV and the return fight of America's last Olympic gold medalist on basic cable TV (with Jay-Z's name and likeness also pushing the event in the top 15-20 media markets, at least)?

No one is clamoring to see Lemieux or N'Dam fight, let alone clamoring to watch them fight each other. Why not move Lemiuex-N'Dam back a week? (might give Golden Boy enough time to finally settle that GYM matter and open up HBO as an option for the fight.

Yeah, I was tempted to see if some cheap tix popped up for the Ward fight, as I'm not about to spend much on it, but with Porter-Broner, and Lemieux-N'Dam on tv, makes no sense to go to what looks like the 3rd best option that night.

Any outside chance it ends up on HBO2, or is it almost certain to go on Fox Sports 1?
