With the 172 catch weight, is andre ward really a 168 fighter, or a 175 fighter?

He's avoided men his own size, it's time to feel strong and fight at his best weight which 175! The 168 limit should NOT be for a title, its an inbetween class for younger fighters growing into maturity. All these super & junior classes should NOT have titles!

Ward's defensive style should be effective even against bigger men.

I'd like to see him campaign at 175 and fight the Kovalev - Stevenson winner.

If he can make 168 and dominate he is a 168 fighter. He is the man to beat at that weight.

Said it right when the catchweight was announced, Andre Ward will never make 168 again. He can't, he's a light heavyweight.

I would imagine it has nothing to do with that. Hasn't he been stripped? Or whatever, so probably just concentrating on making sure he's healthy for the fight as opposed to making weight.

He doesn't grow into a larger man by not fighting. He should be as big as he is ever going to be at age 31. If he is going to move to 175 why bother with 172? I would pick Kovalev to knock him out at 175.Ward isn't a risk taker anymore and I doubt he will fight Kovalev.

It's 4 lbs above his usual weight, and he IS getting older. I imagine these are the 1st steps into a 175 run. He cleaned out 168 and he can't afford to wait for GGG to move up as he waits his own meal ticket with either Cotto or Canelo.
