Reference Floyd personally though, guy was generally loved prior too De La Hoya fight....he chose to play the antagonist/villian role. He even says it in a interview during De La Hoya build up...two good guys dont sale, so I can be the bad guy....and boy did he ever. For casual fans this was their first glimpse of Floyd, he was disrespectful and started the money persona...then the Mexican outfit to throw more salt in the wound as he disrespected their "Golden Boy".
He saw that it worked and kept at it. Me personally witnessing him from the time he started his career saw the two different sides, so its easy for me to still respect the ring skills. But after playing the money persona so long, most dont know another side...he turns people away with his antics.
Dont get me wrong he has earned everything he got, but he also has to understand that he will never be a well liked athlete. He can act like it doesnt bother him, but it does, u can tell by some of his statements.
