Comments Thread For: Marquez Still Holds Anger Over Mayweather Defeat

Former four division champion Juan Manuel Marquez still has a bad taste in his mouth when he reflects on his twelve round decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2009.

The fight was agreed upon to take place at a 144-pound catch-weight to entice Marquez, who at the time was a lightweight, to move up by two weight divisions to fight Mayweather.

Márquez weighed in at 142-pounds, but Mayweather weighed in at 146-pounds - two pounds beyond the limit. There was a financial penalty in the contract which gave Marquez $300,000 for each pound over the limit.

Actually, it's just Mayweather outsmarting his opponent in the game of boxing. Marquez even says he knows Mayweather would've drained himself pretty bad to make 144 which is why he took the fight. But Marquez's team screwed allowing only a penalty for going 2 pounds over. Mayweather made it comfortably and took the penalty using the clause in the contract. Andre Ward says it best, Mayweather is the BEST at playing the game of boxing, whether it as Canelo to Maidana to even Manny, Mayweather plays the game excellently.

Oh BOO HOO. GET OVER IT.

Marquez though should only have 3 Losses. Norwood, Mayweather, and Bradley.

Pacquiao and Chris John got BS Gift decisions over Marquez.

Who gives a ****. JMM would never beat mayweather, at any point in their careers, ever.

If Mayweather came in at 144, JMM would still have lost just as bad and would have 600k less.

Also mayweather didnt even try to sweat out any more weight, he just paid the fine. If he really wanted to, he could make 144, being that he is only weighing 150 on fight night anyways, that is 6 pounds, that isnt ****. Its meaningless for JMM to ***** about it 6 years later.

he was asked numerous times throughout the years if he would entertain a rematch, he always shut it down. . if you thought the weight was the factor, why not even demand a second chance.. floyd did not win that fight by imposing his size, he won it on points by out smarting him, so no matter what the weight is, nothing would change, its a clash of counter punchers and marquez is too slow on his reflexes and his feet to do anything to mayweather.
