Former two division world champion Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez (51-3-2, 28KOs) has denied reports in Argentina which claim the fighter has announced his retirement from boxing.

Martinez, 40-years-old and inactive since last year's June knockout loss to Miguel Cotto, has been dealing with severe knee injuries since 2013.

The former champion does not deny taking part in the overseas interview, but says his comments were taken out of context and made to appear as if he had announced his retirement.

Well ****. I hope this doesn't mean that he aint retiring . Enough is enough sergio we don't wna see you doing a ring roll instead of walk . Rolling yo ass to the ring in a damn wheelchair is not a good look.

martinez was one of my very favorite fighters in his prime. i loved watching that guy fight, and felt he was the most deserving MW champion since the great hopkins.



i want you out of this sport, maravilla!
you don't need to do this to yourself any longer. you've got plenty of talent and drive to make things happen outside of the ring. get into promoting in argentina. those guys are freaking talented. most of them can punch, and have solid chins. some, like sergio, can freaking move! find a diamond in the rough, and bring him along properly.
