Should Freddie Roach retire once Paquiao decides to call it quits?...

i mean freddie roach has never had a champion like manny pacquiao. he's trained other champs before but i dont think he's ever trained a champion from scratch. pacquiao had only raw talent when he first met roach and roach was able to transform him into a brawler into a boxer.

now that pacquiao's career is coming to an end and roach is getting older and his parkinson's probably having more of an affect on his body, do you think roach will still have the energy and motivation to wait for the next manny pacquiao to step into his gym? they've trained together for more than 10 years now.

once pac retires he'll be left with frankie gomez, provodnikov and the chinese dude?

    it's like going from this

I want to say yes, but it's of no concern to me. He seems to be of the belief that the daily workouts he gets from training fighters helps slow the progression of his parkinson's disease, so more power to him if training fighters helps him deal with that in even in the slightest of degrees.

Boxing is his life's passion. I doubt any of us would want to give up ours...

But usually when dudes who are sick and retire go south real fast. Freddie should retire when he wants.

I know, but it seems like boxing is really his life. Not sure if he can be happy without it.

Didn't he say he would probably kill himself if he can't train anymore? Personally I think he should retire. The run he had with Pacman was amazing and he should just ride off into the sunset with him

              Absolutely.

My grandmother had parkinson's disease. She worked 90% of her life. Once she retired she was bedridden and lost her ability to speak within 2 years. Granted that's anecdotal evidence and correlation =/= causation, but doctors who treat the disease always advise lots of exercise and physical activity.

If Freddie wants to keep training fighters then he's earned that right.

From my perspective, I would say yes, maybe he should have retired some time ago. . . but if I were in Freddie's shoes, I'd probably be clinging onto what escape or enjoyment training brings to me.

(Maybe he should just coach amateurs?)

Staying active is keeping Freddie alive and preventing his condition from deteriorating.

No, he shouldn't retire. He should just shut up.
