HOUSTON, TEXAS — So now that Saul "Canelo" Alvarez did what he had to do, will Miguel Cotto do the same thing?

Alvarez scored an emphatic highlight-reel third round knockout over James Kirkland before 31,588 boisterous fans at Minute Maid Park.

There had been numerous discussions regarding Alvarez facing Miguel Cotto sometime in the future. For that to happen, Cotto must defeat Daniel Geale on June 6. That bout will take place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. and will be televised live on HBO.

Canelo/Cotto is the next big fight and it must happen. It's a fascinating style clash. I believe it will be an exciting fight too. Both guys throw very good body punches. Cotto has the excellent jab and is a good boxer. Canelo has the combination punching and youth and size. This fight could turn out to be a classic.

Cotto has to get by Geale first though.

Why fight Golovkin now when you can build that fight up and make it into a mega fight next year? Golovkin should fight the likes of Lee, Quillin, Jacobs and the winner of N'dam-Lemiux. I don't think Canelo will duck Golovkin because he has shown he will fight anybody, even if his team is against it. Canelo should fight Cotto, it seems like the logical step to take after a win like this, unless of course Cotto has other plans. I believe the Wbc has ordered the winner of Cotto-Geale to fight Golovkin after their fight. I do not see Cotto fighting Golovkin if he gets past Geale, but that's just my opinion.
