That is not good boxing. It's totally irresponsible as a trainer to have your fighter fight the way Kirkland did tonight. You can be skillful, defensively responsible and exciting like Chavez Sr, Duran, Barerra and Morales and still have a long, successful career.
There is a difference between a great brawl and a beat down like this that will cut his career short and damage him mentally.
Saves boxing from what? Last weekend we saw a fight that sold between five and six million PPVs. I doubt if Alvarez/Kirland attracted 1.5 million to watch it on HBO. Just how the hell does watching a B+ level fighter knock out a C+ level fighter save boxing?
I'll tell you how. It was a crowd pleasing fight. That's what the majority want to see. I'm sure it did huge numbers.
