Comments Thread For: Ricky Burns Says No Excuses, Figueroa Felt Very Heavy

HIDALGO, TEXAS – Omar “Panterita” Figueroa (25-0-1, 18 KOs) remained undefeated as he put on an exciting show in front of a raucous hometown crowd and earned a unanimous decision over Ricky Burns (37-5-1, 11 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions on CBS live from State Farm Arena in Hidalgo, Texas.

Figueroa was the sharper fighter who landed harder punches and was able to dictate the pace of the fight. Burns was deducted a point in both the eighth and 11th rounds by the referee for excessive holding. “Panterita” won by scores of 116-110 twice and 117-109.

Was a fan of Figueroa but after watching him fight today I can say that he is very one dimentional. And boring, It would be better if he can learn how to brawl without glueing his head on his opponents chest and armpits as if attracted to them like a magnet to iron.

Im British and even though Im disappointed Burns lost, I just don't think much of Figeuroa at all...he reminds me of Oscar Bonavena...Maidana is Pernell Whitaker in comparison to Omar

The best thing about the fight is that the ref didn't tarnish his reputation.

Burns held his own, fought a good fight, and was gracious throughout.

If he's still up for fighting, win a fight at home, and I wouldn't mind seeing a scrap between him and John Molina Jr (if he stays at 140). Not a world beater at the weight, but seemingly makes for a good scrap.

Figueroa looked like an out of shape fat bastard in there. You could see he was not in shape. Just look at his belly, it was hanging out over his trunks. Too much beer drinking, didn't he get a DUI not too long ago? Burns should be super pissed the way the ref treated him, but he does not seem too upset. I guess he does not care, but considering this loss just about ended his career he should file an official protest arguing the ref illegally kept grabbing his arms during the whole fight. Where in the rules allows a ref to continually put his hands on a fighter like Cole did? He was putting Burns at risk of getting hit bcuz he was grabbing Burn's arm he made him a one armed fighter and Figueroa was punching at the same time Cole was grabbing Burns.

Yeah being heavy, that's what you can get away with in the 'new age' of boxing.

Sorry to repeat the obvious but it's clear Figueroa has no future amongst the stars of the division.

He's about to get the LSC bum of the month treatment

And who says Haymon doesn't protect Mexicans?
