  • For those of you praying for Haymon's downfall, are you willing to sacrifice PBC?

It seems as though there are a lot of people praying for Haymon's downfall in his business ventures with PBC, where high-quality bouts are aired FOR FREE on national networks such as NBC and CBS. While it may seem a bit hypocritical as a boxing fan, I can definitely see why some people are praying for his downfall, we can agree that it's a personal thing for them. Fortunately, a large portion of Haymon detractors have left the sport permanently within the last couple of days. However, many Haymon critics still remain.

My question to Haymon critics is simple, what are you upset about? What about his business model is upsetting to you? What is unfair to you? Is he treating his stable unfairly, and if so, how? He's known for being the guy to get his fighters the absolute best, most reliable contracts in boxing period. He gets his fighters paid, and the fighters seem to have no issue with it at all. And now we know that most legitimate PROMOTERS have no problem with Haymon either. If you want proof, check out what Lou Dibella said about Golden Boy's rediculous $200 million dollar lawsuit filed against Haymon recently. It's on the front page of BoxingScene.

    1. Fighters have no issues with Haymon and his business model

    2. Competent promoters have no issues with Haymon and his business model

    3. Most unbiased boxing fans have no issues with Haymon's business model, especially since it's beneficial to US from a viewing standpoint

    4. So that brings me to the question, why do you, as a boxing "FAN" take issue with it?

And even after you've gone and reviewed the FACTS and still disagree with his business model, are you willing to sacrifice those free PBC bouts on CBS and NBC? Are you willing to sacrifice the fact that great fights will go back to taking forever to materialize due to shady promoters not wanting to work with each other like GBP and TR? Because under Haymon's business model, which is sort of like the UFC, all of the fighters in his stable have steady opponents to choose from since it's such a big stable. If you start splitting these fighters up who ARE currently with Haymon, then it goes back to being a mess.

And just to clarify, Oscar's little lawsuit will amount to NOTHING in the long run and it'll be quite funny to see him fall flat on his face. Things are only to get worse for him when Hopkins and Schaefer leave Golden Boy to join Mayweather Promotions in the near future.

True, we've known that for years. But the real question is what are they willing to give up if Oscar and Golden Boy Promotions really did win that lawsuit insinuating that Haymon is abusing the Ali Act? Would they be willing to sacrifice all of the other great matchups that will get lost in all of this mess?

I'm a supporter of the PBC or any group that is trying to swing power away from promoters & alphabet groups as I think promoters have far too much power & can waste years of boxers short careers & alphabet groups have ruined the ability to discuss "world champions" in the sport with a straight face, but here's my take:

I think the reason is mostly cuz he's associated with Mayweather. I seem to notice a high percentage of people who are anti-Floyd, pro-Manny who also happen to be anti-Haymon. I think this project would be spun entirely differently if it was ran by someone like Arum who while considered far more corrupt than Haymon has a connection with a more positively popular boxer in Pacquiao (well til Saturday anyway).

I don't believe him being a virtual recluse is helping PBC either. If he was out at the forefront of PBC I think it might change the way people look at it. Honestly I think if PBC had any sort of head figure to publicly speak about PBC it would be a good thing tbh. The fact PBC is some weird hybrid shadow regime without a visible public face to it who talks to the fans isn't gonna get a parade of fans forming behind you very quickly.

I don't think it has much to do with the Ali Act.

Boxing on free TV is a great idea

Boxing on free TV, controlled by one person willing to ignore the wider world of boxing for sake of his own interests, is a bit of a different thing. Creating a new PBC championship would be awful. Haymon should work with TBRB.

I'd have the same problem if Arum/Top Rank attempted the same thing

Sacrifice PBC? In a New York minute. Put that hideous stage on top of a bonfire and I'll gladly light the match myself. I'll even pay for the strippers to dance around the bonfire naked.

Now if someone wants to put on a normal, traditional boxing production on television, open to all promoters and all fighters equally, I'll support it 100%.

It's kind of hypocritical when Haymon groupies label anyone who isn't keen on Haymon's way of working a 'hater'.

It works both ways. If Haymon wasn't linked to Floyd, he wouldn't have as many cheerleaders as he has on here. It was the same with Broner. When he was linked with Floyd..all the same posters jumped on the Broner band-wagon.

Maybe some boxing fans just aren't naive enough to align to guy just because of who has dealings with. Some don't like miss-miss matches, vacating titles, paying step a-side money and refusals to work with other promoters.

Is there anyone who doesn't do any of those things in boxing today? Seems like boxing is the airport strip club of sports.
