Why is JCC Sr more idolized in the latin demographic then Roberto Duran?

Seriously Duran fought better guys even at weights that were not beneficial to his stature.

They're both idolized. Chavez sr just happens to be more recent than Duran. Similar to how people mention Ali more than Louis.

I'm not so sure I agree.. Obviously in mexico chavez is king, but all of Latin america, I think duran is regarded higher

Plus chavez is fresher in people's minds

Fans tend to group the latin demographic into one group. They are not. Mexicans fans idolize Chavez Sr. because that is where he is from. Fans in Panama idolize Roberto Duran because that is where he is from. Puerto Rican fans idolize Felix Trinidad because he is a native of PR. Each of these guys have fans all over the world, but they are more respected in their own countries.

I always feel like latin people always opt to say JCC Sr as the best of the best. For instance in Seckbacks interviews with latin people, he may ask them who would beat Mayweather. And never do I here Duran. Duran was a far more devastating attacker and technician

Yea I guess what I am really referring to is "Latin-Americans". And from what other posters are saying on here how JCC Sr is fresher in peoples mind, that probably is the factor with there being many Latin American casual boxing fans

Duran is the bigger legend, though a lot of Mexican fans still hold Chavez in high regard and he gets brought up a lot now because of his son.

Plus either Durans mother or father is Mexican, and then the other was Panamanian
