Comments Thread For: Lennox Lewis: 'Fights of The Century' Staged at Heavy

On Saturday night, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao collided in a high stakes pay-per-view event from the MGM Grad in Las Vegas for the WBO/WBA/WBC welterweight titles.

Mayweather boxed his way to a twelve round unanimous decision. Because there was so much hype and five years of anticipation, it was nearly impossible for the match to live up to the expectations.

Former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis might be a little biased on the subject, but says only the heavyweights can stage a 'Fight of The Century' type of battle.

Yep but just like the lower weights where Floyd dominates nobody is even close to Klitschko!

While I agree that this wasn't the fight of the century.I think it can potentially occur between lighter weight fighters it just has to be more competitive and action packed like Leonard/Duran 1.

Fight of the century can happen at any weight as long as the fighters are equal in ability and both very good fighters. Boxing purists knew Manny was not on Floyd's level. Arum sol people a dummy and people bought this dummy. Every boxing purist always knew Manny was never pound for pound 1 or 2. People like Andre Ward are better than him. Pacquiao himself knew how one dimensional he was and also he knew why he claimed he was afraid of needles when he was asked for a random blood test. Only Pacquiao knew why he claimed he would faint and lose strength if he took some blood though we never had him fainting when he gave blood 12 times for this fight. Only Pacquiao knew why he didn't want any blood test 2 weeks before the fight. Whatever reasons he had he could not fool us, we always knew he was one dimensional and his trainer has no plan B when things don't work.

As far as in the ring goes...ABSOLUTELY! Lets be honest, asking these LITTLE GUYS to go out and just slug it out and knock each other out is actually a bit Ridiculous!

Leonard and Hearns was BIG Welterweights so their match ups delivered

But yeah the American Heavyweights need to really get back on track because I do miss it. Heavyweight Globally is outstanding right now but it is the Americans that really need to catch up and get that Heavyweight Division back on track. Wilder is a start and Jennings I thought won some fans over vs Wlad but they need MORE. Nothing will be as big a Mayweather vs Pacquiao was anytime soon
