other than beating hopkins and toney.. roy didn't do much else.. beat the worst heavyweight to walk the planet (ruiz), ducked hopkins rematch for more than 15 years.. couldn't figure out tarver who was pretty much a bum wit a big mouth.. never had a jab, could never fight off the ropes, glen johnson, another bum pacquiao'd him.. he only relied on reflexes. .he never had any technical skills. .joe calslappy demolished him.. beat a fat sloppy Trinidad
roy jones = overrated
Other than beating Hopkins and Toney...
You mean other than dominating Hopkins and Toney? You can ask all the what ifs about Roys career, but the face is, he fought and dominated the two most significant names of his era and made them look noncompetitive.
Not only did he do that against two of the greatest fighter of his generation p4p, they are also two of the greatest defensive fighters ever as well.
Roy landed 46% vs Toney and 35% vs Hopkins.
Also lets not forget what he did to Virgil Hill.
Roy may not had the style to last forever, but he was untouchable, until he was around 35. Untouchable as in never in a fight that was even remotely close.
And he did all of that with a chin made of paper, and his hands down by his side.
His fundamentals may night have been as sound as Floyds, or Hopkins, or Toney, but skill wise, he was on that level. The only problem is that his bag of tricks are unlike any bag of tricks we have seen before or since, because nobody else in the sports history had the athleticism to implement the things that Roy did.
Roy is an anomaly. On paper, I know he shouldn't have beat either Toney or Hopkins. But he did... it doesnt make sense, but it happened.
Mosely avoided Mayweather way back when Mosley wass ppv and wanted Oscar, Floyd wanted Oscarbwho laughed at Floydb saying he was too small and not well known. Lara was never on Floyd radar- different error, Margarito was an Arum fighter and Paul Willams never built up steam losingbto Carlos Quintana
Your listing excuses as a kid tells his mom why I didn't clean my room
Right?!? I never stop shaking my head when I get on Boxingscene.
It's incredible. A rare insight into human nature. Just when you think you've seen it all, a Floyd fan goes and says that Floyd never talked up his '0'. Tremendous.
