Comments Thread For: Merchant: Crawford is Even Money Against Floyd/Manny

Veteran boxing observer, Larry Merchant, is sky high on the prospects of one Terence Crawford, who just recently captured the vacant WBO 140-pound title by halting Thomas Dulorme in six rounds on April 18th in Arlington, Texas.

"I think that after he fights somebody at 147 and if he can show the same stuff he's showing now, I would make him no worse than even-money against either (Floyd) Mayweather or (Manny) Pacquiao," said Merchant this past Friday.

Oh man. I like Crawford, but sheesh. Not close to their level yet.

Pacquiao knocks him out. He struggled with Gamboa's speed of hand/foot and I'm not sold on his chin.

Crawford is a really special fighter. However he's only had 1 fight at 140. I think he'll grow into the 147 division and completely dominate in the next 2/3 years but at this moment in time he shouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentance as May/Pac. Crawford should be targeting the likes of Matthysee and then look for someone like Kell Brook.

Dude... Anyone would struggle against Gamboa's hand and foot speed. Hes a poor mans Pacquiao, and you have to give credit to Crawford for buckling down and knocking him out, and after a few fights, when he says his gameplan is to touch and feel the fighter out, and then you can HEAR his corner say "Okay, now step it up" and he goes out and hurts the guy, you have to give him the benefit of the doubt that it really is the gameplan, and he just executes.

Have Thomas Dolurme, Rey Beltran and Gamboa made Crawford ready for Mayweather?

I agree. He is coming along nicely. I look forward to his step up on comp over the next year or so. I think he is the type to rise to the occasion though, so if he is put in with either Manny or Floyd, I think he puts up a great fight.

Yall tripping.....lets not forget He was getting blasted by Gamboa till he start landing big shots.....IF Gamboa didnt have that arrogant hands down style....Crawford would have lost.

He hasnt even fought a real fighter at 140lb yet.......
