Is Roman Gonzalez enough to carry the smaller weights into the spotlight?

Granted big fights make big stars, can someone of Gonzalez's skill caliber transcend the smaller weight divisions into the limelight?

I believe he has a multi-fight deal with HBO so we're guaranteed to see Gonzalez more than once after next month.

However if HBO can't get the big fights (Estrada/Inoue/Nietes) will Gonzalez just be a flash in the pan for the smaller weights co-headlining or headlining HBO cards?

For the same reason the wider public love to watch heavyweights, they seem to have no interest in watching flyweights. It's crazy really, given that flyweights tend to be much faster and more technical and in more action packed fights.

Even a guy as good as Gonzalez won't get the US public interested. But maybe there are other markets he can have an impact on.

I hope that they push him hard, and that through him all the good small fighters get some attention. Even if he loses to someone, use that loss to start pushing whoever he loses to.

Lower weights will never be popular. You might as well give up on that. Once in a while, you will get a breakout star who makes a little but they will have to move up to ever hope to make any true noise.

I believe in him for this. He's not just a great boxer but he has a great personality too from what I've seen.

I think anything below feather is the limit where casual viewers stop focusing on the boxing and just crack jokes about midgets and anorexia once they see the fighter stats.

Fair or not it's the way it is. Roman is making good money but at his size he will never be a household name.

Remember what Darchinyan did for the Flyweight and Super Flyweight division though? I have hopes.

If Ricardo Lopez couldn't do it who actually had a small following then this guy has no dam chance.
