    Holding saved Wlad's career

    Pre-holding:
Getting beat down by the likes of Sanders and Brewster. His career was over.

'04 he hires Steward, who helps Wlad to learn to hold. One of the first fights they use it in is against Peter in '05. Wlad is still raw, hasn't mastered holding, hits the floor a few times, however the holding does just enough to get him through the fight and keep him from getting KTFO.

Next 2 years he fights guys with no KO power, Byrd, Brock, etc. mastering his illegal tactics.

This fight we see Wlad holding from rounds 1 to 10 before finally getting a point taken after getting warned 1000x, when it should've been MUCH earlier. The rules just don't apply to Wlad I guess. Wlad has 0 inside defense, it's pretty obvious. By the time he was warned, Jennings was too tired.

In b4 "Wlad will just let his hands go..." yes, that's how he used to fight and he got his ass beat doing it. He has no other defensive tactic, he didn't have one before, doesn't have one now.

If only you had the same tears when your 'homeboys' Andre Ward and Floyd Mayweather do it just as bad if not worse (esp Ward)

Nonsense oversimplification of his evolution as a fighter. Nice try but a fail.

This of course is nonsense. His defense (for anyone who had been watching his fights in the last 9 years, and not just knee-jerk reacting to his holding) is his moderate footwork while standing tall. When a fighter throws a punch, he anticipates it and steps back slighting, with the punch landing on his shoulder every time. That's his primary defense, not holding.

The only thing that his holding does is prevent rabbit punches and inside exchanges; which of course he will never do.

That isn't great defense, it's pretty basic stuff that most mobile tall fighters do, his footwork is good though. Holding prevents inside fighting, uppercuts, bodywork, sneaky hooks on the inside, short powerful punches, and Wlad's opponents aren't allowed to fight there smh.

His defense looks even better from holding and leaning him body on his opponent all night, carrying 240lbs over 12 rounds is tiring. Nobody else in boxing benefits from holding like him bc of his sheer height and strength, as well as how blatantly he gets away with it.

Just because you can do some things good on defense, doesn't make you a great defensive fighter. Wlad's defense is horrible without holding.

See but that's where you're wrong.

Wlad's defense = complete garbage when he's not allowed to clinch

Ward and Floyd are natural defensive wizards, even without clinching.

Ward and Floyd also pose inside game, Wlad's inside game is composed of thin air, because it doesn't exist.
