This to me is the meat of May 2nd! The art the science of hows it's done, and what these two gladiators are training for!
Floyd Mayweather's strategy:
I think considering how bulky and muscle bound he is, he's honed in one one outcome him being the physically larger, and longer, fighter. He's put all his chips in on accurate, power, counter punching. with the base of his offense will revolve around body work. Breaking Manny down, timing his offensive flurries and stomping it outright early, or halting them mid flurry when he see's an opening marshaling distance and timing with his legs. Yes, this fight, this fight, when he needs them, he rolls it back and uses his legs. I thought it was funny when Floyd's video of him swimming, baited Freddy Roach's comments him being surprised he was swimming for his training. Feints, a ****e tactic, that will draw out Manny's offensive attacks and put his footwork to the test. Floyd will punishes any , and all, uncertainty, if hesitation is shown. Mayweather will go for an an emphatic, definitive, clear, finish.
POWER, TIMING, BODY WORK.
Manny Pacquiao's Strategy:
I think it's fairly obvious really, considering what his physique has been of recent, muscles don't win fights, but cardio certainly will put you in the equation. Manny has putting all his chips in on cardio sheer unadulterated volume punching! I think his plan is to turn back the clock, and not go for power, but go in light and fast, punches in bunches. I think it's the natural sensible choice is to be able to outwork, outgun, Floyd if he goes into his defensive shell. Freddy Roach saying that "I don't think Floyd can hurt Manny" Lets us know, there is going to be relentless, relentless, relentless pressure from round 1 - 12 with his chin on the line, and his balls to the walls. He wants to roll it back folks, to a De La Hoya'esk type of strategy. Sheer, fitness and volume is his stronghold as long as it lasts.
VOLUME, ANGLES, FLURRIES.
It's going to be an exciting fight. What are your strategic notes as we head into this last week before the biggest fight, in the history, of civilization.
Personal side note. I wonder if Freddy Roach has tried to change or adjust Manny's style vs an elite counter puncher since the JMM knockout. I think, that if anything else, will show his true merit as a trainer. Has Manny learned anything since his emphatic defeat... a strategy 5 years in the making... will be interesting to see.
"The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses - behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights.
