Comments Thread For: WBC: If Monroe Beats GGG, No Cotto Mandatory Shot

The World Boxing Council hereby informs that boxer Willie Monroe Jr., who will fight Gennady Golovkin on May 16 at The Forum in Los Angeles, was notified via his promoter Art Pelullo from Banner Promotions, that he has not complied with the WBC safety requirements. Consequently, he will not compete for the WBC interim-championship in possession of Gennady Golovkin. And in the event he wins, he will not be the mandatory opponent for Miguel Cotto’s championship.

This seems a bit shady on Monroe's part...

So they're covering Monroe with insurance because he's in a WBC Championship bout that isn't for any WBC belt.

      Makes total sense.

Maybe they fear getting sued in case GGG causes way too much damage on accident.

Maybe it really has something to do with not wanting to pay the sanctioning fee for WBC, knowing that Cotto will be fighting Canelo next regardless. I don't know.

wbc protecting cotto again. they know monroe will win and don't want monroe to school cotto(a certainty) so they can setup cotto-canelo and freeze out monroe.
