Comments Thread For: Arum: I'm Not Sure Floyd Mayweather Will Fight Again

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum is not convinced that Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26KOs) will fight again - win or lose - beyond May 2nd.

During his recent media day, Mayweather admitted that he's no longer passionate about boxing as a sport and now views it as a business.

After he steps in the ring next Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, against Manny Pacquiao, the unbeaten WBC/WBA welterweight champion has stated that he plans to fight one more time - in September. The fight in September would be his final contract obligation to CBS/Showtime.

Arum has also recognized Mayweather's lack of enthusiasm when it comes to boxing. Both fighters will earn record purses, with Mayweather's end being estimated at $180 million. [Click Here To Read More]

With 180 + million to cash in win or lose would you blame him?

That's like winning the lottery and than still working two full time jobs. Enjoy the fruits of your labor.

I agree. I don't see Floyd fighting again. Does anyone know if he would have to buy the rest of his contract out? How will it work if he chooses not to fight his last fight?

yes i do blame him. Itys called Legacy. Its more than just money. Just with Floyd it became easy money. When you been hand picked your opponents and marketed this way its easy to have his attitude. His handlers recognize his lack of passion and big headedness. He was forced to take this fight. Manny is the cash out for Floyd. They know Manny will beat him. Its time to say bye bye to Floyd. Thats why he doesnt have it anymore.

So lets say May wins and no rematch is requested from Team Pac.

Would it still be a issue if he didnt fight again?
Its not like his last fight is gonna be GGG, so Im sure he can beat whoever he picks last.

honestly it all depends on how he wins.
If he wins like JMM did. Yes ride out. Dont fight again.

If the fight is super close and a Gatti /Ward type of fight...Lets see it again! A demanded rematch will produce more money.

If its a Bradley 1 type win...No way can he retire or should with a gift decision and controversy.

If he just out classes Manny or out points him with a lopsided victory...retire on it.
