There's not much difference between 172 and 168. Back in the days of Sam Langford, Harry Greb and Carlos Monzon there was no division between 175 and 160 at all.
Size wasn't the primary reason Chavez lost, he lost because Fonfara has decent boxing skills and because Jr is a brawler who lacks world-class technical boxing skills.
That being said, Chavez should get in shape and fight at 160 where he won't be at a height and reach disadvantage.
not only does he not have world-class technical boxing skills, he doesn't even have the most basic left hand to the face.

Chavez actually looked alot more ripped than fonfara. He even had a six pack, however either way he is just a blown up middleweight because muscle in this case has slowed Jr. Down. Big bulky muscles drains a fighter of oxygen and also slows them down. I agree with the earlier post that Jr. Just didn't have any technical boxing skills to cope with fonfara. In addition, his frame is just too small for lhw right now. Even the top guys at 168 froch and ward would beat this clown. If he moved back to 160, he would have to deal with ggg. Case in point, Chavez hopes of being among the best at any division is over. He could be top 10 at 168 or 160, but if you think hes ever going to be discussed with the elite guys that is out of the question. He should just feel lucky that he has the last name he does which allowed him to be famous and make a ton of money. Everyone is starting to see now that he is nothing like his father and even his Mexican fan base has turned on himComment
