It goes without saying that in the way of stateside notoriety, there are Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, and then everyone else. Such a status–combined with their serving as arguably the best two fighters in the world—makes their May 2 event the most anticipated in recent memory, and one targeted to go down as the most lucrative in boxing history.

Of course, nothing lasts forever, including a fighter’s career no matter how many times they retire and return. So as boxing’s two biggest stars prepare for May 2, the rest of the industry will be forced to deal with the aftermath, including the eventual successor.

canelo will not be the next big superstar outside of Floyd cotto and pac no 1 will do big numbers like that every fight canelo following is just Mexicans and some hardcore boxing fans the only fighters I can see as being a big hit is danny Garcia, Crawford, and I cant think of anyoe else at this moment once canelo loses to cotto it will be a nail in the coffin

B*tch a*s Houston Mexicans only buying 40,000 tickets for this fight? San Antonio Mexicans did that with like only 6 weeks and hardly any publicity! And Jake Donovan, you're confusing me because I'm not used to objectivy from writers where Canelo's fight vs Lara isn't mentioned without the lie that "a fight alot of people felt he lost". Good writing!

Please give me a break. It is past time to stop mentioning Canelo in the same article as Pac and Floyd. He will never fight either of them again and his future is in the MW division. For him to be a big hit at MW, he will have to take on GGG. When he takes on GGG, the Canelo hype train comes to a screeching halt. Time for both Canelo and Cotto to face the facts... to be the best at MW, you will have to beat the best at MW.

In order for Canelo to extend his fan base is he has to express and embrace his white culture to appeal to the white audience.
