This must be an American term as I have no idea what the hell he is talking about.
I'm not sure whether or not it's an American phrase, but I believe it means that someone will make an immediate sacrifice to reap more benefits in the future.

Hatton will get cut in the opening rounds, everybody will be on the edge of their seats, wondering if the cut's bad enough for the fight to be stopped, and before the 10th round Hatton will land a barrage of punches, depending on whether Collazo will go down or not, TKO/KO win for Hatton, but as Asian Sensation said an upset is definately NOT out of the question.

I'll be honest with you, I've only seen him fight two times. The Miguel Angel Gonzalez fight and the one when he was prematurely stopped in his only professional loss. I think that a 4th or 5th round KO is not gonna occur, as Hatton isn't really a one punch guy. But he will break him down to the body and maybe stop him in the 10th. Collazo is gonna come to fight, this young man has been overlooked for a long time and is eager to reach the big time. Hatton is his best opportunity to reach the big time.

Tell that to Maussa, but most of his KO's come by weakening the body and throwing combos from the inside, and the odd headbutt constitutes too.

I think the odds will be somewhere like 3-1 for Hatton the night before, but then by fight time the odds will be like 7/5 man to man.

Yea tell that to Maussa who was taken shots ALL NIGHT from Hatton. Then got KO'd late. He was broken down,he was tired and hurt from taken all the punches through out the fight and went down. I wasnt impressed w/ Hatton's performance in that fight either. Hatton isnt a one punch guy.

I do agree, but it's hard to look good against somebody like Maussa who likes to smother and use illegal blows.

Miguel Cotto looked very good against Maussa. That was one of Cotto's best performances.
