  • Comments Thread For: Hopkins: Danny Garcia Must Take Things To Next Level

Living legend and Golden Boy executive, Bernard Hopkins, says WBC/WBA junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia must take his career to the next level.

Garcia last three performances have left a lot to be desired. He squeaked past Mauricio Herrera in early 2014, but it was a fight where some observers felt he should have lost. And then came back at a catch-weight to blow away highly overmatched opponent Rod Salka. Garcia returned last month in another catch-weight fight against Lamont Peterson, and it was another fight where some observers felt it should have went the other way.

I think Herrera took a piece of Danny's soul in the big Puerto Rica homecoming fight, he hasn't looked the same guy since. He needs to find his mojo again and quit with the catchweight nonsense. Go up to 147 and fight some names or stay at 140 and fight Crawford, Broner etc.

Garcia should now finally step it up to full Welter limit already. If Khan comes through against Algieri that should set up a great fight for the fall. Garcia should have no issues as he has KOed Amir, so why not take that as your first bout at WW?

It made sense to deny Khan a rematch at LWW, but at this point Amir is ahead at the weight being ranked #1 by WBC (stay salty).

Danny beat Mathysse and Khan so there is no next level. Danny is the best at 140 and top 10 P4P, everybody else needs to step their game up. **** you talm 'bout?

Garcia is not good enough for the next level. At 147 he gets his ass beat by any top 10 WW.

At 140, Crawford beats his ass

Garcia needs a conditioning coach and a new trainer his dad isn't cut out for A-level boxing

Danny really miscalculated by not taking a floyd fight after he beat lucas.. He was the front runner but backed out of contention..
Now a few years later, floyd is on his way out, and Danny's stock is pretty low after the Herrera, salka, Peterson fights

I've always been a fan of Danny's andalso thinks he's a good dude. His father, on the other hand, I don't share the the same feelings for. That being said, I agree with other comments that Danny has hit a ceiling as far his precieved growth, and needs to find another way to to break thru and grow even further. I cant say for sure, but he just might have reached the point to where he needs a different level of training to help him break thru to the next level of his true potential. Danny hasn't shined in his last few fights and looks to be imminently moving up to welterweight, and at the pace I don't foresee him maintaining his luster too much longer. I think he needs a legit strength and conditioning coach and help with his footwork in the ring. If he doesnt work on his limitations, then the big boys at 147 are gonna eat him for brunch .

but he can't. he's extremely limited. had a good win over khan but easily could have lost 3 out of 4 with the only win being over salka. he's waiting for his chavez jr/broner moment which should come soon.

B-Hop is subtly stating that Garcia needs to dump his pops and get a real trainer, perhaps Naazim? I don't see it happening unless they have a big falling out.
