168 is a division that gets overrated, as well as 154.
168 and 154 are both way better than middleweight. They have multiple good fighters in them, not just one good guy and a bunch of mediocre scrubs.

Or is that an illusion being created by how much better GGG appears to be than other 160lbers just like at HW where Wlad is that much better than everyone but there are still good fighters.

Agreed.154 is the worst offender for being overrated. Vanes keeps giving problems to the so called uber talents of the division. All of them get put to sleep by GGG.

          160 > 154

168 is an old division as well. GGG beats them all, only Ward is the toss up.

154 has Canelo, Andrade, and Lara. Also the Charlos and Julian Williams. All capable of being in competitive fights with each other.

168 has Ward, Froch, Degale, and the Dirrell brothers. A level below you also have George Groves, Gilberto Ramirez, Arthur Abraham and Robert Stieglitz.

160 has Golovkin, a blown up junior middleweight in Cotto, and then a bunch of garbage. Andy Lee is probably the next best opponent. The same Andy Lee that got starched by bum ass Chavez Jr.

Canelo and Cotto are not of any weight class really, they are in their own "business decision" division between 155-159.

No one cares about Lara and Andrade they are boring and 1 dimensional.

Froch is all but retired now and will only fight again for a massive payday and other than Ward the rest of 168 is comparable to the talent level at 160.

There are some decent fighters at 160, GGG just seems to be a distant #1 right now.

I would rather GGG stay at 160 than move up to 168 and fight at a catchweight because he can't make 168 after training camp. Once he has devoured everything at 160 and can build his body properly to move up and remain at 168, and if he can get some quality fights guaranteed at that weight, then he should move up. But not until then.

You might have a point there.

Whether anyone cares about them or not is irrelevant. They are world class fighters who would be competitive against anyone.

Andre Dirrell is much better than anyone at 160 outside of Golovkin. James Degale is young, an Olympic gold medal winner, and just hitting his prime. He too is much better than most of the dreck at 160.

If Golovkin didn't exist, Quillin would probably be a protected No.1 and there would be little or no talk about how weak it is.

But he does exist, and he's exposed just how weak it is.
