Chavez Jnr posting on IG that he got 4.2 million

haymon just throwing money away. i bet he thought chavez jr was going to be a good cash cow for him. but after last night performance, i doubt he'll draw any large amount of fans again.
chavez jr should have fought ggg or froch for even bigger money. at least if he got ko'ed it would have been against legit top level opponents.
I'm going to keep saying this but Chavez should have taken Top Ranks deal. It was a one fight extension that would have had him paid $7 million for fighting Golovkin with a minimum of $5 million in his next fight if he lost to Golovkin, and more if he would have won.
Instead, he took less money, fought Fonfara which really never made any sense to begin with, got his ass kicked, quit on his stool and humiliated, and now surely the Stevenson/Froch fights are off the table at least for now, and surely his next fight purse will take a dive. Basically, he could really fade fast if he doesn't turn things around quickly.
Now if he would have got his but kicked by Golovkin there certainly wouldn't be any shame there, if anything he'd be praised for even fighting such a feared guy like GGG, AND he would have got paid!
Such a bad decision. It's not always beneficial signing to Al Haymon. For lots of guys yes but Chavez had such a big name it wasn't really necessary.Comment

*The logic behind the one fight extension, and paying him less if he didn't sign it was Top Rank believes if they are going to invest heavily in Chavez vs GGG, they want to promote his following fight. Common practice in boxing. They didn't demand anything crazy like 5 fights, or multiple years or anything like that, simply the right to promote his following fight, that's it!Last edited by ИATAS; 04-19-2015, 06:02 PM.Comment

Haymon was most certainly trying to set up Chavez vs Stevenson and/or Froch.

They can't all be winners, but keep in mind that was on Showtime not PBC, Showtime footed a lot of the cost (the purse). The other **** bonuses, the lawsuit fee, and what not is not looking like wisely spent money but there is another side of it.
JCC Jr. can be like Mayorga, people will pay to see him get his ass beat long past his sell by date (which seems like it already came and went), there is value there. That is paying a lot for The Brooklyn Brawler, but in boxing there is a bit of money for that service and Chavez can get beaten up with the best of them (while posing no real threat).
What cracks me up though is people complain about Haymon protecting fighters, he throws JCC Jr. to a wolf gets his ass whoooped on which was pretty entertaining. Now people are talking about how he should have had Arum to continue protecting him? JCC Jr. got exactly what was coming to him.
The fight had a lot of drama and that knockdown + quitjob/interview were memorable. SHO got a lot of buzz and probably some big ratings for this fight. Chavez fought Vera on HBO back to back and also Peter Manfredo Jr, if people want to whine about the matchmaking for entertainment this fight had a lot of value.
People on here have their minds made up to certain promotions/networks. No matter what fight is signed or what the outcome, there will still be bitching going on.Comment

Finally, something to thank Haymon for! I never thought it would ever happen.
The only thing wrong with his leg was the way it went so stiff after he got hit. I mean seriously, look at the gif AP posted, his legs go stiff like he was in a Bugs Bunny cartoon! It's hilarious!!!

He would have made more with Top Rank and Arum would have matched him properly and protected him.
What Arum did with him was one of the greatest jobs of promoting I have seen in my several decades of watching boxing. Arum took a kid with a name but no amateur experience or talent, matched him perfectly, protected him, and built him into a huge draw.Comment

That's the part I don't get.

Sometimes those moments are sad, but this one was quality entertainment. One of the grim pleasures of being a boxing fan.Comment
