StubHub Center, Carson, California - Andrzej Fonfara (27-3, 16KOs) showed former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-2-1, 32KOs) bit off more than he could chew by returning from a 13th month layoff to face a true light heavyweight - which is divisions above Chavez's last weight class. Fonfara dominated, dropped Chavez hard in the ninth and he couldn't come out for the tenth.
Things did not start well for Chavez Jr., who was getting busted up with punches from Fonfara. By the fifth, both of Chavez's eyes were swelling up. Fonfara lost a point in the seventh for using his shoulder. He got things evened up when when he dropped a hard left hook in the ninth to drop Chavez hard. Chavez showed his heart, beating the count and fighting Fonfara toe to toe intil the bell.
