Sucks for GGG, but the guy still has some decent options for this year. As others said, he could try and fight Heiland for the WBC strap (if in fact the WBC decides to strip Cotto). That's a very winnable fight, but I don't really rate Heiland that much and he has no name value.

GGG could also try to fight Lee if he defeats Sanders (which I'm not sure if he will). This is the best route to take, imo. Good money fight (especially in New York), Lee's a name and has stated his willingness to fight GGG in the past.

GGG could also try to get the winner of the IBF battle between Lemieux and N'jikam. GGG better hope that Lemieux wins though, because N'Jikam has never wanted any part of him. Unfortunately, all of these options depend on what if scenarios, which means GGG might be stuck fighting the Moras of the world. Not the worst outcome in the world, but disappointing considering how close to the top of the division GGG is.

I forgot about N'Dam. It sounds like he might be dropping out of the Lemieux fight due to the purse money. Golovkin could fight N'Dam in Aug/Sep then maybe Lee in Nov/Dec?

The WBC will likely declare Cotto champion emeritus (like they did with Serigo Martinez when Chavez was made champ and also with Vitali Klitschko and originally with Tzyu).

We could also get Tureano Johnson vs Jorge Heiland on the undercard of Geale/Cotto. Johnson/Geale and Heiland/Cotto share the same reps.

It's booked only if they win which is no guarantee.
Kirkland and Geale could easily pull off the upsets.

Tells you everything you need to know about the middleweight division. The so called MW king's entire career is based on him fighting a 34 year old ex Jr. welter.

So you agree Cotto isnt the real middleweight champ

Cotto is an old Welterweight who exposed Sergio's temple. Cotto beating GGG would be impressive. GGG beating Cotto, not so much. We have divisions for a reason. Welterweight..Middleweight... You know, how nobody was impressed by Danny KTFO little Salka? Divisions...

What part of GGG beating an ex Jr Welter sounds GOAT to you?

I feel for GGG , but the best career move would to drop down to 154 and call out Mayweather -Pacquaio winner. Yes, i know everyone is going to scream , oh he's beating on a little guy or whatever, but it makes the most financial sense. I wished Cotto-Canelo would have been made so he could have fought the dangerous puncher in Kirkland and then a pure boxer, counter puncher in Lara. He would have gotten credit there from me. Really sucks to be GGG and get ducked alot.

The WBC will not grant 'emeritus' status to someone who has only defended a title once, if he gets past Geale that is. That would be the biggest joke in boxing.

If Cotto gets stripped, GGG will not need to fight anyone for the title. As he is the interim champion, he will be automatically promoted.

It has nothing to do with Cotto. Only the title he holds captive. Why can't Cotto's fans understand that the little coward himself is meaningless in the MW division?

True but the cast of "duckers" themselves, are not truly legit tests at MW. GGG is in a tough spot. Nobody left really but Ward at 168lbs. And that too, is not necessarily fair to GGG being a 160lb fighter. MW division is hurting.

agree with you. I bet Pacquaio would fight him, but it would be at like 152 or 153. That would be huge in Macao. He would beat Pac , but Pac would hit him alot. Mayweather fight would be huge in Vegas. However Floyd doesn't like to get hit. GGG would win by stoppage or Big unanaimous decision.
