Yea sure I agree Khan is up there on the list of fighters Mayweather should fight if he does not retire and continues fighting. I think Khan has as much chance as Mosley, Canelo, Cotto, Maidana, and the list goes on and on.How many boxers has he fought? Weight drained Alvarez and an over the hill Mosley? Marquez had been forced to come up in weight and that was his first time coming up this far up.
If anything Khan is clearly a better fighter than Ortiz and Guerrero. Note I'm talking about the Ortiz coming off a Berto World title winning performance and at the pinnacle of his career, I think the present Khan is even better than that. Same with Guerrero.
Also you can't neglect Mayweather is aging. Sure he is not crumbling, but you can't possibly say it doesn't matter at all.
Khan has speed and reach, what else? That's enough to give Mayweather trouble for 2 rounds? What is Khan going to do when Mayweather starts tagging him? Khan still needs his trainer to tell him how to move in the ring. Mayweather can adjust in the moment.Comment

Hand speed is pivotal, but he has started to use his feet really well. He doesn't jog, but effectively get out of the opponent's range after firing his offense. His left hook to the body can be brutal, but he doesn't use it as much, so there is decent power.Yea sure I agree Khan is up there on the list of fighters Mayweather should fight if he does not retire and continues fighting. Defense has improved quite a lot, so there is that.
Lacks inside game, but will Mayweather try to bully and out muscle Khan?
Also if Mayweather hurts Khan will he be able to finish him? He will hurt Khan no doubt. Amir has a crystal chin, but can Mayweather walk him down and Gatti him? Khan is wiser at recovering by holding and not engaging, but Mayweather may not risk coming in and walking down Khan. Many variables and we can go on and on.Last edited by Box-Office; 04-16-2015, 06:06 AM.Comment

Floyd would eventually time Khan - with ease.
Khan has some hand / foot speed but generally come's in and out with a 1-2, maybe throws a few hooks and runs back outside.
There is nothing that Khan has that Floyd should be concerned with, its a tricky style to deal with but not really going to dominate Floyd past a couple of rounds.
Khan never stays in the pocket and his power is pretty average - there is no way he is going to 'outbox' Floyd over 12 rounds.
I believe Floyd avoided Khan because of the risk reward scenario. Khan IS higher risk for low reward.
Until he fights Manny, all Floyd's fights have been lower risk - and I'd include Maidana in that.
Basically it is not a case of 'you are good enough to fight Floyd', it is a case of 'you are easy enough for Floyd to beat'.
Khan style would give Floyd problems, but the result would be inevitable.

I'd agree with you if this were 2009 Floyd. However, he's aged since then and more importantly his work rate has dropped considerably. For example, Khan threw 563 punches vs Alexander, while Floyd only threw 326 vs Maidana 2. I know that these are only two example but they demonstrate the disparity between their most recent work rates. Floyd may well still be the better fighter, but I can see Khan outworking him more than anything else.Floyd would eventually time Khan - with ease.

But people talk of the 'New Khan' as if he is now a completely overhauled boxing machine.
He's not.
His opposition has been frankly terrible before Alexander, and now he's fighting Algieri...
The same weakness's exist in Khan's boxing, they have just been protected by the quality of his opposition IMO.
That's why he ducked Brook and Bradley.Comment

#1. Throwing a few punches and running like a deer isn't a style in boxing. It is the style of a track star fighting off a robber.
#2. Danny had problems with Herrera because of skill levels. And Matthysse tried to brawl with DSG and got caught more than he delivered.
All of which have nothing to do with Khan's catered fantasy that he would be a problem for the elite fighters -- If ever he fought one. See, Khan has at best fought retiring top fighters and active B\C-level fighters. Not one fighter that Khan has ever fought was both in their prime and top level -- NOT ONE!!
Revisiting reality, Khan with all his so-called skill and speed struggled with guys that are not even in the race to become top fighters. Yet, because of structured "WORDS" and fantasy "TALK", Khan is now all of a sudden a worthy opponent for the best of the best.
Yet, while enduring this fantasy conjured up by his fans, and entertaining the nonsense that Khan is ready for the elites -- Khan is terrified to fight Thurman, Porter, Maidana, Brook etc... It seems almost deliberate that Khan only targets to fight past-prime retiree's and little green men that are just getting started in the fight game. Still it is to be believed that someone who is avoiding all his young prime peers, deserves a championship fight with the top of the food-chain ..... Simply because of some fabricated fan fantasy, that doesn't hold a bit of logic and because he has speed that hasn't benefited him in any fights thus far.
I think Froch summed up Khan best:
Every time he tried to step-up, he got beat-down, which is telling in and of itself. Because out of all the prime opponents calling Khan out to fight,(Thurman, Brook etc...) he cowardly chose Algeri, a relative new comer who was recently used as target practice.
You just can't make this shit up
