Comments Thread For: Frank Bruno Throws Support Behind Mental Health Drive

Former WBC heavyweight titlist Frank Bruno MBE has once again come out in support of the fight against mental health. Bruno suffered from depression following his retirement and the collapse of his marriage. The 53-year-old former fighter has made no secret of the fact that he suffered badly as a result of mental illness and is putting his weight behind a film about Shared Decision Making (SDM).

The film has been put together by Darren Flynn from Newcastle University’s Institute of Health and Society. It will help promote the treatment amongst doctors and people who are struggling with mental health issues.

I see him sometimes at my local market, always friendly and even appears a bit shy when he meets a fan.

I'm 6'1 & he was big, solid still.
I met him in the terminal, we both held the door open for someone else & got stuck with a plane load of people coming up the stairs. He was a bit shy.

I then see him again in the carpark & he was more relaxed & was joking about the ticket prices.

        He's a top fella & a national treasure

Not only depression, but a lot of boxers who've had a lengthy career suffer from dementia pugilistica. Sometimes depression can be a symptom of dementia pugilistica. Not just boxers, but many athletes in high contact sports who suffer multiple concussions throughout their careers are at risk. I find it odd though because not every boxer gets it, only some of them do.
