These idiots seem to have latched onto the belief that Haymon is a saviour, not just another promoter trying to make money from the sport which is how the rest of us see him.

I don't see why he should exclusively get a pass for his bullshit, I'd love to know why people think he should.
    A pass for what, exactly?

I don't know anyone who doesn't realize, nor have I seen anyone post, that Haymon created PBC or bought time on TV for altruistic reasons, for the love of the game, etc.

Who does that for anything? NBC is trying to make money, the fighters are trying to make money, the advertisers and sponsors are trying to make money (by getting people to buy their products), the arena is trying to make money and the guys selling programs and peanuts and popcorn are trying to make money.

Are you suggesting that making money is an evil motive?

What Haymon is doing that Arum or Golden Boy or Don King (now or back in his heyday) haven't done is INVEST in boxing. PBC is sinking tons of money (millions, I would presume well over $100 million) not believing that these fights are going to make money today, but that they will in the long run create a return on investment ... that they'll make that back and more down the road by creating stars and increasing the audience.

Klitschko-Pulev drew 1 million for two viewings on HBO. Wilder-Stiverne did 1.25 million on Showtime, biggest fight in 2 years and fourth-biggest ever on that network in viewership. (Yes, I know those are subscription channels with a smaller available audience than the networks.) So this did 3 million -- that's 3 times more than saw Wlad, and that means that some casuals who aren't now hardcore boxing fans probably tuned in because it was accessible on free network TV.

Competition is a good thing. PBC's "power move" is going to make HBO and Showtime and Arum and Golden Boy also invest in boxing if they want to keep their share, and they're going to have to put on more compelling fights to stay in the game.

For a boxing fan, to me that's a good thing.

I hope Haymon's investment pays off. I hope they make so much money that they have to carry gold bricks out of the arena every time out, because if they make big money doing it then others will want to try to emulate it and they'll also invest to see if they can get a piece of the pie.

So, yeah, I'll give him a pass for trying to make money.

i've said it before that PBC won't do better ratings than their debut and looks like i'm right. i told everyone this was a circus show fraud con act and it will fail hard. but everyone always laughs at me, calls me a weirdo and troll. once again i'm proven RIGHT! time and time again!!! when will people start waking up???????? i always predict things correctly.

where is Da Machine??? i told him ratings won't do any better than debut and in fact would be worse. i bet my entire account on it.

and it turns out danny got another gift hahahahahahahahaha. what a con show. won't be surprised at all if ratings plummet even further now that the casuals have got a taste of the boxing robberies. hahahahhahahaha

The number of households in the U.S. without cable or satellite is increasing -- up 44 percent last year.

Roughly 20 percent of U.S. viewers do not have either. They get the free broadcast channels like CBS and NBC, which PBC airs on.

That is not an investment by GBP or Top Rank. They didn't buy the time. They take a fee from ESPN or whatever cable outlet and one from whatever casino is putting up money to hose it and basically stay within that budget -- so if they get $100,000 (to usea simple round number) for a Friday Night Fights show, they're going to put on fights that stay within that number and still leave them a profit margin for that show.

That's the safe way to play it, no doubt, and it's good business ... but it's not investing in hopes of growing the audience to make money down the road.

Kathy Duva admitted as much with how she lost her NBCSportsnet deal -- they paid her for shows, she spent as little as possible and put on crap shows so she could keep more of the money. Shortsighted, and it's why Duva doesn't have a TV outlet anymore.

So, no, it's not the same thing at all.

UH...You do know at one point Arum did have this much control in boxing if not MORE when he had Oscar De La Hoya who was the biggest Draw in all of boxing, he also had Mayweather. The fans had no problem with Arum being in control for the most part, it was the Fighters who wasn't happy with Arum and left him. So Yeah...YOU'RE WRONG!
