Comments Thread For: Peterson on PBC: Happy To Be A Part of the Movement

Like many in his generation, Lamont Peterson never really knew what it felt like to grow up with boxing on free TV. The 31-year old junior welterweight was still in his teen years by the time the sport was all but phased out from the free networks, unable—and unwilling—to contend with the license fees offered by regional and pay-cable outlets.

Like many currently under Al Haymon’s advisory banner, Peterson now has a chance to help right that wrong and help attract a new generation of fans. The reigning 140 lb. titlist faces unbeaten World lineal junior welterweight king Danny Garcia this Saturday evening at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The non-title fight—which takes place at a maximum catchweight of 143 lbs.—will air live on NBC in the network’s second installment of Premier Boxing Champions series.

I hope peterson is going for the kill because I don't see him winning this on the scorecards even if he won more rounds.

PEDerson is in basically the same position he was before the Khan fight. I hope he surprises everyone against Garcia just like he did then, and I think he will.

Does Haymon own Boxing Scene? Every article about his PBC is full of praise for the league and I have yet to see even the slightest hint of criticism written by any of the writers. They all look like promotional puff pieces.

I'll watch it, but I won't be out there telling everyone that it's a new movement that will change the sport. Because that would be a load of horse manure. It seems that anyone who is not licking Haymon's ass over this automatically wants it to fail. Maybe taking a bit of criticism would help it succeed a little longer and attract some new fans instead of bombing out prematurely.

Peterson, despite his flaws, is a tough outing for anyone. DG better bring his best, because this ain't going to be easy.
