I feel like Vargas was winning in the fourth round when he knocked down Tito. As Tito was getting mauled after the knockdown, he punched Nando in the balls. He should have been disqualified imo.

Vargas was winning the round. He wasn't winning the fight. The first round was a 10-7 round for Trinidad due to the two knockdowns and Trinidad won at least one of the next two rounds, so Trinidad would still be ahead on the cards even with the knockdown in the fourth round. Trinidad dominated the majority of the rounds right up to the 12th round when he KO'd Vargas. One low blow is not grounds for a disqualification, even if it is done to buy yourself a little time.

The truth is Vargas was an overated fighter. He lost to every A-level opponent he faced -- Trinidad, Oscar de la Hoya and Mosley -- by knockout.

Vargas maybe could have won the fight if he wasn't so determined to prove that he was not like Oscar and wasn't going to run. He came out super aggressive and got caught. At the end of round 1 he probably felt like he's fought 6 rounds already. He faded and Tito always had top notch stamina. Tito could be outboxed though and Vargas did have the skills to possibly beat him but he fought dumb.

One of my all time favorite fights. Tito played racket ball with Fernando`s f u c king head.

Oh, and to answer your question, the only thing Fernando could have done to win this fight is if Vargas had a rocket propelled grenade hidden in his rooster tail Tito knocked off his forehead.

If his corner paid attention to the way Tito wrap his hands once Hopkins exposed his cast wraps he was never the same

Those 6 knock downs with those cast wraps ruined him he probably developed vertigo from that fight that's why he had no chin after that

Ahahaha. Tito's wraps were legal and even Nazeem said so. Vargas was just never on Tito's level. Show me where ANY of Tito's opponents looked like he fought Tony or Luis Resto. Hardened wraps BREAK faces. They do NOT give you the power Tito had.

Nothing could have changed his destiny. Vargas was the kind of dude that makes you realize how much of a bad ass the top guys were.

Correct me if I'm wrong but dude got KOd while on roids vs Oscar as well. Vargas was good and it's easy to say he wasnt ready for Tito but he would have never been... Hell he's lucky he met Tito while he was relatively "fresh" otherwise he'd have been murdered.... Nothing could have prepared him for Tito's, Oscar's, and Shane's left hooks lol

That's unfair to say. Vargas was ruined by Trinidad. DLH and Mosley did not face Vargas at his best.

We can apply this logic to Cotto not being "his best" when he faced everyone AFTER the plaster tournament.
