I think it has to do more if they're true fighters. Whitaker was a true fighter, you rarely see anyone diss on him compared to other slick fighters. No one like to pay for pitty pat running(unless it's your race that wins with some people). If you're truly boxing, you fight and use that slickness. No one talks crap about Floyd's early career as much as today. Why? Because he fought and showed his skills at the same time much more often.
