NEW YORK -- SiriusXM announced today that it will begin broadcasting Premier Boxing Champions fights to satellite radio listeners nationwide, bringing the sport back to the national radio airwaves.

Introduced in January of this year, Premier Boxing Champions is a new series - created by Haymon Boxing - that features many of boxing's best and brightest stars and champions.

SiriusXM's first broadcast will be the April 11 Garcia-Peterson/Lee-Quillin fight card at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. Airing on SiriusXM Sports Zone, channel 92 (8:00 pm ET), the big night of boxing features a clash of champions Danny Garcia (29-0, 17 KOs) and Lamont Peterson (33-2-1, 17 KOs), and the co-main event is champion Andy Lee (34-2, 24 KOs) against former champion Peter Quillin (31-0, 22 KOs).

As I stated in the other thread pertaining to this. This is 2015. Not 1915. I want to be entertained by watching the fight. Not listening to it on the radio.

With technology like dvr and the ability to record a show directly from your smartphone, there's no reason why anyone should miss a fight.

I seem to remember listening to some HBO boxing events on the radio some years back.

It wasn't that bad of an option if you couldn't watch live, but I don't see a big market for it.

Especially now, when it's probably a lot simpler and perhaps more realistic for someone to check twitter or elsewhere online for updates and/or live scoring.

It's a good look, not everyone is free on fightnight. Some people work (driver, mechanics, etc) at least now they have access to listen to it. People underestimate the power of broadcast and how enjoyable it can be. I actually prefer listening to MLB broadcasts than watching the game. Radio announcers aren't sucking @ss like tv ones. I think Archive.org has some fight radio broadcasts from back in the day.
